Wroclaw Travel Guide

Wroclaw will be the European Capital of Culture in 2016 and is the former capital of the region of Silesia, located in south-western Poland. Situated on the River Oder it is Poland’s fourth largest city and has a rich and varied history. Heavily influenced by its wonderfully mixed heritage, this is a beautiful city with plenty to explore around every corner. The medieval town hall, St Elizabeth Church and St Maria Magdalena Church all sit in the stunning Rynek central square which is one of the biggest in Europe. The fabulous Cathedral of St John the Baptist is one of the highlights on a group of islands on the river. There are also gardens, parks, museums and galleries as well as the beautifully lit Wroclaw Fountain. The old town is home to plenty of bars and restaurants for the night owls.

The airport is 10km south-west of the centre. Buses are frequent and cost around 3PLN into town. Registered taxis cost around 30-50PLN. The transport infrastructure around the city is very good.
