The Greek Dodecanese Island of Kos is only 4km off the west coast of Turkey. It has miles and miles of sandy beaches and coves, and whitewashed houses in lovely villages and towns dotted around the island. The two main resorts are Kos Town with its sophisticated harbour area, and the beach party town of Kardamena. Perhaps the best stretches of sand can be found in the resort of Kefalos Bay to the south-west of the island and include Langada and Paradise Beaches. There are plenty of sites to see away from the clear blue waters including the tourist train in Kos Town, the mountain villages and the 14th Century Castle of the Knights.

The airport is close to the centre of the island and the resort of Kardamena, around 22km from Kos Town. KTEL offers a good bus service from the large roundabout outside the airport, but given the relatively small size of the island taxis are good value – Kos Town is roughly 35 euros, Kardamena 18 euros.
