Gdansk Travel Guide

Gdansk is a large city and an important seaport on the Baltic Coast in the north of Poland. It was the birthplace of Solidarity which ultimately brought an end to Communism across central Europe. The city was a member of the Hanseatic League and many of the old, elaborate buildings have remained or been restored. The main tourist area is centred around the streets of Ulica Dluga and Dlugi Targor (Long Street and Long Market) where you can find the Neptune Fountain, the Town Hall, the Torture House, Prison Tower and the main city gates at either end. There are also several churches, museums and monuments worth visiting as well as Baltic Sea beaches close to the city.

Lech Walesa Airport is 12km north-west of the city centre. Public buses run regularly and cost around 4PLN, the Airportbus shuttle is a direct service costing 15PLN but only runs a couple of times a day. Official taxis should cost 50-70PLN depending on the time of day.
