Faro Travel Guide

Faro is the southernmost city in Portugal and is situated centrally in the Algarve region. The region is perfect for beach lovers, with a lagoon style beach just outside Faro itself on the Ancao Peninsula, two small islands to visit Ilha da Baretta and Ilha da Culatra, and close by the resorts of Albufeira and Praia de Luz amongst others. Albufeira has beaches, a marina, an old town and plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants. Praia de Luz is a little further down the coast, and is close to the town of Lagos which is also well worth a visit.

Faro airport is to the west of the city which makes it easy to visit the main resorts. Taxis cost around 40-50 euros to Albufeira and 80-90 euros to Praia de Luz. Alternatively there are shuttle buses which may offer better value. There is also a high speed train which runs to the capital Lisbon in 2.5hrs for around 20 euros.
